Cantabria and Burgos are linked by a 7-kilometre-long tunnel. It has suffered several collapses over the years and yet it continues to be impressive in the face of nature that fights to get it out of the way.

The visit to the “Engaña” tunnel from the Yera station becomes a mixture of the typical landscape of the Pas valleys with its history and its abandonment.
It was built as a long railway tunnel 6976 meters long (the third longest in Spain) and yet it was never used.
More than 300 people retaliated by Francoism who served their sentences working in the tunnel for more than 20 years participated in its construction. The arrival at the barracks is also impactful once the story is known and it is understood how so many years of work have been put aside.

Nowadays, the tunnel cannot be completely crossed. However, it is possible to access the interior and advance as far as curiosity allows you.
